Nepal Flood Relief
A glacier collapse on the Nepal–Tibet border sent a nine-meter wall of water down the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli rivers with no warning. Families across Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading lost homes, bridges, and roads. Women Equity International is raising for punarsthapana — the rehabilitation of households after the water goes down — and every gift is being matched.
What happened
On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at about 8:40 a.m. local time, a glacier collapsed near the Nepal–Tibet border. The USGS first logged the event as a magnitude-4.4 earthquake before identifying it as a landslide.
The water rose nine meters in thirty minutes, with no warning. Rasuwa was hit worst, then Nuwakot and Dhading downstream. Bridges, roads, and homes were destroyed. Dhading is the district where WEI’s own community work is based, and the families affected are our neighbours, partners, and participants.

What your gift is for
This appeal is for punarsthapana (पुनर्स्थापना) — rehabilitation. Not the first days of rescue and emergency relief, but the long stretch afterwards, when the water has gone down, the reporting has moved on, and families are still out of their homes.
Rehabilitation is the work of helping a household re-establish itself. In the districts this flood hit, that means work such as:
- Shelter. Repairing and rebuilding damaged homes, and safe transitional housing until they are habitable again.
- Livelihoods. Restoring the land, tools, livestock, and small businesses that households earn from — the difference between recovering and being displaced for good.
- Water and sanitation. Restoring safe drinking water and sanitation to homes and schools.
- Access to schools and health care. Reopening the services families depend on, and the roads and bridges that reach them.
The Government of Nepal has asked that all flood relief funds be routed through one channel, the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. Women Equity International is raising for its Nepal flood rehabilitation response and, following that guidance, expects to direct these funds to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
Gifts are not restricted to a specific project or line item; WEI retains discretion and control over the use of all gifts, consistent with our mission.
